Parsons details Riyadh Metro Red Line extension role

Parsons announced on 3 November that a Parsons-led joint venture with Systra and Egis had been selected by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City to provide project-management and construction-management services for the Riyadh Metro Red Line extension. The disclosure says the selection was made in March 2026; it is not presented here as a new November contract award.

The proposed 8.4-kilometre extension runs from the King Saud University terminus to Diriyah South. Parsons describes 7.1 kilometres of underground railway and 1.3 kilometres of elevated alignment, with five stations: three underground and two elevated.

Why it matters: the scope brings underground works, elevated structures, stations and integration with an existing metro network into one management package. For construction professionals, the appointment is a useful marker of the programme’s delivery organisation. It does not, by itself, establish that construction has reached a particular milestone or that the extension has opened.

The announcement describes a multi-year services role. The relevant delivery questions include how interfaces between work packages are controlled and how information moves between the design, construction and operating-network teams. Those are Civil Insight’s observations about the stated scope, rather than additional milestones reported by the client.
