San Francisco selects team for nutrient reduction upgrade

Jacobs announced on 28 October that the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission had selected a Jacobs–PCL joint venture to deliver the Southeast Treatment Plant Nutrient Reduction Project through progressive design-build. The utility estimates the project at US$1 billion.

The proposed treatment upgrade targets total inorganic nitrogen discharged to San Francisco Bay. Jacobs says the plant handles approximately 80% of the city’s wastewater, making continued operation a central constraint on the work.

Why it matters: treatment-process changes in an operating plant require the delivery team to coordinate construction, commissioning and service continuity. The selection announcement establishes the delivery arrangement; it does not demonstrate completed nutrient-removal performance. Source: Jacobs, 28 October 2026.

Data centre opposition reaches local ballots

Reuters reported on 29 October that voters in 38 local jurisdictions were to consider at least 41 data centre-related measures. Its report described opposition associated with electricity demand and local development. No ballot outcomes are asserted here.

Why it matters: the votes put community acceptance and local approvals among the risks that data centre project teams need to track alongside design and procurement. Source: Reuters via bdnews24.com, 29 October 2026.
