The Portal North Bridge project in New Jersey has entered another major phase of rail systems work, with crews and contractors working around the clock during the autumn cutover, Amtrak reported on 29 October.

The operation is intended to connect railway infrastructure around the new bridge and move the final track from the old Portal Bridge. Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT had announced that the transfer would begin on 9 October, requiring temporary changes to passenger services.
A cutover of this kind brings track, signalling and operational interfaces together within limited access windows. Its success depends on coordination and testing before services resume. Amtrak’s update describes work in progress; it should not be read as confirmation that the full project has been completed.
