Monaro Highway flyover due to open on 4 November

The ACT and Australian Governments announced on 3 November that a 196-metre southbound flyover at Lanyon Drive was due to open on Wednesday 4 November. The structure forms part of the jointly funded A$260.5 million Monaro Highway Upgrade Program in the ACT and is intended to carry through-traffic past the existing signals.

The announcement distinguishes this traffic opening from the remaining works. Southbound cyclists are to continue using the existing roadway, with access over the bridge expected in early 2027. Opening the flyover therefore does not mark completion of the entire upgrade program.

Why it matters: staged openings need clear handover information for road users and delivery teams, particularly where different users move to their final arrangements at different times. Source: ACT and Australian Governments, 3 November 2026.

Western Freeway safety works begin near Pykes Creek

Victoria announced on 2 November that work had begun on a one-kilometre westbound section of the Western Freeway near Pykes Creek Reservoir at Ballan. The A$21 million project will realign and replace the road with two wider lanes and provide wider shoulders, safety barriers and line marking. Completion is expected in mid-2027.

Why it matters: the works affect an operating freight and commuter corridor. The announcement advises that lane closures and speed reductions will be needed during construction; the delivery challenge includes maintaining traffic while the road geometry is rebuilt.
